The Legacy of North Catholic
from: The Cahillite, Fall Issue 1
The success of Roman Catholic’s soccer team this year is in no small part due to the players who came here from North Catholic. Just as Roman does, North Catholic has a very strong and vocal alumni who follow their teams very closely.
The North Catholic alumni haven’t forgotten about their athletes; in fact, on their website, the alumni boast of how many All-Catholic Falcons appear on the rosters of winning teams in the Philadelphia Catholic League.
For Roman, Tommy Kostic and Norman “Boomer” Steigelman were named 1st-team All-Catholic. Danny O’Brien and Dylan Rutledge were named 2nd-team All-Catholic. Billy Broadbent, Alex McKee, and Mike Flanagan also played well for Roman this year.
Kristian Hall, who helped La Salle win the PCL Championship, was named 1st-team All-Catholic.
Father Judge also had some North talent on their team, who lost to La Salle in the championship game. Justin Hiltwine was named 1st-team All-Catholic. Kevin Lockhart, who unfortunately was injured during the season, also played for Judge.
And finally, Archbishop Ryan picked up 1st-team All-Catholic Matthew Martinez from North Catholic.
The Cahillite congratulates this year’s All-Catholic athletes and acknowledges North’s long and proud legacy of talented soccer players. If we accidently omitted any All-Catholics from North’s soccer team, we sincerely apologize.
